Biography

Beverly Blair is a San Antonio ceramist. Her works reflect past art forms such as metal art and painting. She began her art career as an artist blacksmith in the early 1990’s and showcased her works in The Anvils’s Ring and The Fabricator, national magazines displaying hand forged metal art. Her works were displayed at the Ashville Art Museum, Ohio Craft Museum, and the Contemporary Artifacts Gallery in Kentucky. Later, Beverly began painting, perfecting watercolor,  acrylic and oil painting skills she developed from classes from the Coppini Academy of Art and the San Antonio School of Art.

Inspired by these earlier art elements, Beverly combined texture, color, and shape to her different  styles of ceramics. With instruction from nationally known ceramic instructors, she began working in thrown pottery and hand sculptured work. She enjoys combining muti-media items to her ceramic work such as metal, wood, glass and various items from nature. Her art work encompasses different style glazes and various firing methods to produce different aesthetics to her work such as wood, down draft barrel, Raku, chrystaline, gas and electric firings.

Her work ranges from large artistic sculptures to thrown functional pieces.

Today, Beverly exhibits and sells her sculptural and functional work at local markets shows, private art showings  and on social media.

"It’s not just the beauty or the aversion one might see but also the feeling the emotions connected to it. When I combine these emotions to my work, I  invoke pleasure to the viewer and sometimes, surprise or shocking feelings.

Curiosity has always played a big part in my artwork. What is that rustling behind that big bush?  Why would anyone need a brass embossed lid not attended to go on something?  What purpose did all those rusted steel parts originally serve?  These constant observations are what inspires me to make ceramic  multimedia work/ pieces or sculptures."
